ServeNext Chicago talks with Congressman Quigley!

ServeNext Chicago talking with Rep. Quigley
and his staffer about national service.

Post by Caitlin Closser, ServeNext Organizer for Chicago:

ServeNext Chicago took advantage of an opportunity to meet and speak with Representative Mike Quigley, 5th District IL. Quigley was marching in a parade and invited supporters to join him. We opted to visit his meeting place beforehand just to try and get a few words with him.

A few months prior, we had met with Quigley at his office to discuss national service funding and how he might be able to publicly show his support. He was amiable to our ideas about attending AmeriCorps events or visiting an AmeriCorps member.  At this event, we re-connected with him and his scheduler.

Although there was not time enough for an in-depth discussion, Rep. Quigley again was favorable to our ideas about how he could best use his platform as a member of Congress to illustrate the critical and important work done throughout Chicago and the entire United States by national and community service organizations and fight for a continued federal investment in this work.  We are hoping to plan something this summer while he is home in Chicago on recess!
