ServeNext Chicago and Public Allies Chicago met with Representative Mike Quigley, 5th District Illinois. We were able to thank Rep. Quigley for voting against H.R.1, and explain ServeNext’s mission and role in the Save Service movement. Mr. Sullivan spoke about the Public Allies AmeriCorps program and the tremendous benefit the members have on many varied organizations in the Chicago community.

Rep. Quigley assured us that he would be happy to help bring publicity to events or organizations to highlight National Service programs in Chicago. He already participates in the Undercover Congressman initiative, and we discussed the possibility of him shadowing an AmeriCorps member for a day on one of his next visits to town. He also agreed to try to speak with Rep. Biggert and Sen. Kirk about our service initiatives.

Overall, we felt it was a very successful meeting, and that we definitely have Rep. Quigley’s support.
