Help the Peace Corps today!

Posted by Zach Maurin on November 23, 2010

Push for Peace Corps just sent out this email. Take a minute if you can — today is the deadline and they’re making great progress:

**TODAY IS THE LAST DAY TO GET SIGNATURES ON FY 2012 LETTER TO OMB!**

In the last 4 days, because of thousands of phone calls and e-mails, we have 80 co-signers on Congressman Sam Farr’s letter to OMB Director Jacob Lew requesting a $500 million budget for Peace Corps in FY 2012. While this is great news, we can easily break 100 with some more pressure, but the deadline is today! There is no question that this letter will make an impact of millions of dollars on the Peace Corps budget offered by the Obama Administration this February.

Please take just 5 minutes now to call the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask to be connected to your Congressman or Congressswoman. Once connected, ask to speak to the “legislative aide for foreign affairs” or the “legislative director”. Even if you have called, please call again. Ask your friends, family and colleagues to also call! Forward this to all of the RPCVs you know.

PLEASE SAY THIS:

“I’m calling from ___ to ask Rep. ___ to sign Congressman Sam Farr’s letter to OMB Director Jacob Lew requesting a $500 million budget for the Peace Corps in FY 2012. This budget would support an additional 2,000 volunteer positions globally and open several new strategic countries for the 50th anniversary of Peace Corps. The deadline for signing is today (5:30 PM EST). So far, 80 Representatives have already signed. To sign the letter, please contact Caitie Whelan (5-2861) in Rep. Farr’s office now. I will be calling back again to see if the Congressman or Congresswoman signed today or not. This issue is extremely important to me.”
