TIME’s 10 Best College Presidents + Service

Posted by Zach Maurin on November 13, 2009

TIME Magazine yesterday released its list of the 10 best college presidents.  These leaders are doing interesting things (one is opening a sister campus in Abu Dhabi, for example).
But of note for this blog is Tulane University President, Scott Cowen, who says this about his school during the interview with TIME:
One of the critical decisions we made was to integrate public service into the university’s core curriculum so that every student would engage in public service for all four years
It is great to have more examples like this where service is a smart, strategic initiative delivering critical outcomes for a community and not just treated as a nice thing to do.
As an alum from George Washington University, I’m excited by its recent announcement to create a Center for Public Service and Civic Engagement.
What other universities make service a big deal and see it as core to the  campus culture?
