Tuesday Highlights

1. The Chronicle of Philanthropy published a piece entitled “President Obama Seeks the ‘Most-Promising Nonprofits in America.'” This piece explains that White House officials will be traveling the country looking for “the most promising nonprofits in America.” The chosen nonprofits will receive grants from a $50-million dollar fund meant to help charities expand their social projects.

2. The Charity Blog Navigator published a piece entitled “Michael Jackson and Philanthropy.” This piece details all the acts of charity Jackson performed throughout his lifetime. 





3. Tactical Philanthropy published an article entitled “What Exactly is the Social Innovation Fund?” This article clarifies the Social Innovation Fund. The Social Innovation Fund was authorized in the Edward M. Kennedy Serve America Act of 2009

4. Global Envision posted a piece discussing world hunger. According to this piece the UN recently announced that now one billion people worldwide suffer from hunger. 

5. The Philanthropy Project made mention to a piece published by CNN entitled “Manicurist Sells House to Build School.” This piece tells the story of a woman by the name of Lidia Schaefer who did everything in her power to ensure that a new school be built in Ethiopia. This incredible individual set aside sections of her paycheck and sold her house in order to fund the cause. She even lobbied to the Ethiopian government to set aside land for the school to be built on.
