Congresswoman Sanchez (D-CA) agrees to join National Service Caucus

Posted by aaronjmarquez on February 27, 2008

On Monday, Feb. 25th, Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez from California’s 47th district (Orange County) came to speak at Georgetown University. Sanchez, a member of the Homeland Security Committee and the Armed Services Committee, addressed the question, “Is America Safer?” Seven Georgetown students showed their support for ServeNext.org by wearing ServeNext’s light blue t-shirts at the event. During the questionand answer session, one ServeNext.org of Georgetown member asked Congresswoman Sanchez if she would support expanding national service programs such as AmeriCorps and the Peace Corps. While Sanchez firmly believes in service, she discussed the problem of the government’s limited discretionary spending, the vast majority of which is spent on Iraq. At the end of the night, the ServeNexters took a photo with Congresswoman Sanchez and had her sign a t-shirt. Most importantly, Sanchez agreed to join the House of Representative’s National Service Caucus. Monday proved to be a successful first event for the first college chapter of ServeNext.org!
