Romney speaks of service and “power of human influence” at Timberland

With national media in tow, former Governor Mitt Romney (R-MA) visited The Timberland Company’s Global HQ in Stratham this morning, taking time to meet with AmeriCorps members with City Year New Hampshire.  Romney served on the organization’s national board with Mr. Jeffery Swartz, CEO of The Timberland Company, who played host to the Presidential candidate on the eve of the first-in-the-nation New Hampshire Primary.

After being introduced by Swartz, Governor Romney opened the town hall meeting with a family story that he equated to City Year Founding Stories.

Campaigning with Romney was U.S. Senator Judd Gregg (R-NH), who served as honorary co-chair of City Year’s annual convention last year, hosted at Saint Anselm College in Manchester.  When Governor Romney greeted corps members and City Year founders Mr. Michael Brown and Mr. Alan Khazei, Swartz was quick to also recognize Senator Gregg’s contributions to National Service in New Hampshire.

Governor Romney is not the first Presidential candidate to visit Timberland this campaign cycle.  Governor Bill Richardson (D-NM) will stop by for a town hall meeting later this afternoon (which will be live blogged) and U.S. Senator John McCain (R-AZ) visited one month ago.
