Sen. Biden becomes latest to sign Presidential Pledge to Expand National Service

Posted by aaronjmarquez on October 6, 2007

Joe Biden has got an idea!

U.S. Senator Joe Biden (DE-D) became the latest to sign the ServeNext Presidential Pledge to Expand National Service following a Town Meeting this morning at New England College in Henniker.

“I don’t sign pledges, but I actually think we should have universal National Service,” he said as he signed the line. In his rapid-fire, ‘yes-or-no question’ close to the Town Hall, Senator Biden was asked if he planned to expand AmeriCorps as President. He replied, “Yes.” The ServeNext Presidential Pledge calls for expansion of AmeriCorps by 100,000 members annually.

It could be said that Biden, who was elected to the U.S. Senate at the age of 29, knows a thing or two about public service. We hope that he’ll take the opportunity to spend some time with others serving their country as AmeriCorps members while on the campaign trail this fall to expand on his vision for universal National Service.

Biden joins U.S. Senator Barack Obama, U.S. Senator Bill Richardson, U.S. Senator Chris Dodd, and U.S. Congressman Dennis Kucinich, in signing the Presidential Pledge to Expand National Service.  While he has yet to sign the pledge, former U.S. Senator John Edwards has said that he is committed to expanding AmeriCorps by at least 100,000 members annually.

  1. Well, thank goodness Biden does not have a hope in heck of winning!

Would you be willing to spread the word about It’s a site dedicated to shattering the myths surrounding the selective slavery system and building mass civil disobedience to stop the draft before it starts!

Our banner on a website, printing and posting the anti-draft flyer or just telling friends would help.
