Today, former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R) told the mother of an AmeriCorps Alum that he makes “no promises” when it comes to expanding National Service programs when he becomes President of the United States. Following his lunch on Main Street in Nashua on the way to an event in Salem, Mayor Giuliani was asked for his thoughts.
“It’s great… a great program!” raved Giuliani of AmeriCorps.
“What about expanding it?” said the mother. “Well, I make no promises,” replied the former Mayor of the federally-funded program through which thousands of New Yorkers have served the Big Apple over the last decade-plus. New York City has a long history of blazing the trail for National Service with the New York Volunteer Corps, a modern day model for citizen service, preceeded AmeriCorps by nearly 10 years.
